Re Bluewater Health Cutbacks

So last week it was announced that over 100 full-time jobs would be lost, and the palliative care unit would be closed down at Bluewater Health (the organisation that runs my county's hospitals). People are more than a little upset here, and the local paper has been flooded with letters exclaiming their dismay. I thought I'd join the club and add my own.

Dear Sir:

It has taken me a few days to think this over, but I have a suggestion for a cost-saving move at the Lambton Hospital Group. All we need do is shut down the hospitals… yes, that’s right, all of them!

Now, I know that you’re thinking this is a crazy idea, but as our local MPP has stated, “Hospital care is not all of health care.” Think of the possibilities here: there will be no more long wait-times in the ER, an end to bed shortages, and best of all, budget woes will be a thing of the past. We could even give Mr. Vigar a much-deserved raise (insert tongue into cheek)!

Alternatively, I would suggest that David Vigar and the Bluewater Health Board of Directors grow a collective spine and tell the provincial government to stick the “no deficit” law wherever many of the Liberals’ other election “promises” went. Tell them that in this province people [for once] come before the almighty dollar.

Ridiculous!

I just finished reading this post on Boing Boing about Telus blocking access to their employees' union website. That's low-down, dirty pool. All I've got to say is this: If you use Telus for phone service, or internet, stop. Now. This is taking anti-union tactics to the extreme, and probably should be illegal for a business to do. Please, contact the CRTC and file a complaint against Telus' actions!

A sad day for Star Trek Fans

While I no longer consider myself much of a Trekkie... I'm still a fan of the shows.
Today, James Doohan, who played "Scotty", the engineer from the original series died at his home in Washington State. There's a link in the title of this post where you can read a full article.
Interesting connection is that he attended the same high school as myself... I wish I'd had the chance to meet him! Godspeed, Mr. Doohan.

Life goes on. Al Qaeda doesn't scare us.

This is the best response I've seen from London yet.

Three fun links

Deep Impact Live Status Updates - I've been watching this closely for a while now... first time I stayed up to watch a space mission, and man I was not disappointed!

Google Sightseeing - Meghan and I spent some time tonight playing with Google Maps (maps.google.ca) and I spent some more time searching around and looking at things tonight... lo and behold there's a site that catalogues all sorts of neat stuff!

Montage-a-google - Just try this. It's cool. Katie tried "milky way" and was impressed. Also try "Jesus Christ icon".
